The Work Behind the Work
Urban Electric Co. is known for lighting made by hand in Charleston. This short documentary shifts the attention from the finished fixtures to Donnie, one of the people whose skill gives the work its character.
Rather than create a conventional company overview, we used one person’s perspective to show what craftsmanship looks like from inside the business. The film connects the precision of the manufacturing process with the experience and judgment behind it.
The result is both a portrait and a brand film: a story about an individual that reveals something larger about the company he helps build.
